Lecture 9 - Magnetism II



Overview:

The mechanism by which electric currents produce a magnetic field (Law of Biot-Savart) is discussed in greater detail. The field due to a single loop and an infinite wire are computed. Ampere's Law is derived. The operation of the DC electric motor is used to illustrate the torque generated on moving charges in a magnetic field.

Lecture 8 - Circuits and Magnetism I



Overview:

After a description of more complicated electric circuits, the basic ideas underlying magnetism are discussed and the relationship between electrical charges and magnetic fields is explored. Magnetism is caused and experienced only by moving charges. The Lorentz force on a charge is described and used to deduce the force on a current carrying wire. The cyclotron and velocity selector are described.

Lecture 7 - Resistance



Overview:

Lecture begins with a discussion of electric potential distribution in conductors. Image charges are introduced and exploited. Capacitance is explained in greater detail and illustrated using the parallel plate capacitor. The energy stored in the electric field is derived. The forces acting on an electric current flowing through a conducting wire are examined. The RC circuits and its energetics are discussed. The EMF due to a battery is explained.

Science and technology developments that occur in various fields including information technology and communications, has provided a major impact on changing patterns of human behavior in a variety of activities. In the field of educational activity, advances in science and technology on one hand has a lot to help the teacher in conducting a quality learning process, on the other hand requires the readiness of teachers to constantly update their knowledge and understanding of science and technology and how to pass it on to students.

This year (2011) majoring in Physical education plans will be conducting the service of Purnawisuda V. As in previous Purnawisuda service activities, it will be held with variety of scientific activities, such as the international seminar on education and the teaching of Physics, various competitions related to teaching physics in schools and supporting devices, and related exhibitions media and the tools for learning physics. In an international seminar, planned to invite some experts in the field of physics education from abroad.

GOALS

1. Organizing an international seminar aims for the participants to gain insight on how the learning of Physics should be implemented as well as get additional insight into the knowledge of the outcomes of innovation and learning physics results of recent studies related to the implementation of learning physics in its various aspects.

2. Exhibition aims for the participants to gain additional insight into media-related knowledge, teaching aids, equipment demonstration / practicum, and other learning tools that are useful in helping the process of learning physics at school.

3. The implementation of learning physics contest aims to encourage the growth of ideas and creative ideas, innovative among secondary school physics teachers in planning and implementing learning physics in school who are active, creative, innovative, effective and fun.

4. Implementation of media innovation contest / learning tool aims to trigger the growth of ideas and creative ideas, innovative teachers of physics among high school in developing a variety of media and learning tool that can help the process physics implementation of quality physical learning.

5. The implementation of science-project contest aims to foster a sense of fun and love the elementary and middle school students as well as foster creativity in harnessing science concepts for various purposes.

Lecture 6 - Capacitors



Overview:

The electric potential is defined for the electric field. It is introduced as an integral of the electric field making the field the derivative of the potential. After discussing the ideas of electric potential and field as presented in the previous lecture, the concept of capacitance is introduced as a means of storing charge and energy.

Overview:

The law of conservation of energy is reviewed using examples drawn from Newtonian mechanics. The work-energy theorem is derived from first principles and used to initiate a discussion of the vector calculus underlying the law of conservation of energy.
